The industry is losing drive

In the logistics and transport industry, the pressure on drivers is higher than ever. Long working hours, physical strain and a growing driver shortage are creating significant risks and major costs.

Conversations with drivers, fleet managers and ergonomic experts reveal a consistent pattern: standard seats often fail to support natural posture during long shifts. As the pelvis tilts backwards, the spine follows, creating additional strain from the lower back up to the neck.

To address this challenge, we focus on three essential questions: how can we better support the body during long hours of driving, how do we ensure every driver is supported regardless of physique or vehicle type, and how do we create a seating solution that is flexible, sustainable and future proof?

By examining the problem and sketching the first possible solutions, we create a clear design direction focused on ergonomic precision, long-term comfort and measurable impact behind the wheel.

Steering towards the prototype

Because no two drivers are the same, the design of the Custom Driver’s Seat focuses on capturing the individual seated posture. Using a vacuum bag, the body position is digitally scanned and translated into a 3D-printed seat inlay tailored to the driver.

From there, the design evolves into a physical prototype through CNC cutting, CNC stitching and 3D printing. The open 3D-printed structure improves ventilation, retains less moisture and helps absorb vibrations during long hours on the road.

To validate the concept, CoverWorks collaborated with the ZIT-lab at TU Delft, where multiple prototypes were tested with professional truck drivers from several transport companies. Their feedback was clear: greater comfort, less fatigue and better focus while driving.

Through modelling, testing and refinement, the Custom Driver’s Seat evolves into a seating solution that balances ergonomics, durability and daily performance.

D3 · DELIVER

Engaging all engines

Once every detail is validated, production begins across our facilities in Europe and Asia. This is where industrial precision blends with skilled craftsmanship, transforming every refinement into a durable, high-performing seating solution.

Because the inlay is transferable between vehicles, drivers can take their personal seating solution from one truck to another. This creates flexibility for drivers and consistency across fleets, while helping companies reduce ergonomic issues, improve satisfaction and support long-term employability.

The result is a Custom Driver’s Seat that improves comfort, supports healthier posture and contributes to healthier, happier and more productive people behind the wheel.
